Using the conversation in the Teams desktop application
A Teams meeting conversation (also know as “chat”) offers many features. The most used are formatting, links, attachments, mentions and reactions.
The conversation also contains a log of the meeting events such as when participants join and leave, as well as the meeting starting and ending.
1. Click the “onversation -button in the Teams meeting toolbar.
2. Users without Office 365 accounts will find the chat -button here:
Type your message in the Type a new message -field. Click the paper airplane –button to send your message.
Text formatting options can be found by clicking the !!Muotoilu –button. Only a few tools are visible at first. Click the “...” -button to see more.
Internet addresses starting with “www.”, “https://” tai “http://” will be automatically converted to working links. Copy-pasted links will also work.
Files can be attached with the paperclip -button.
Consider how others will be able to open the file types that you attach, especially if they are using the Teams mobile application.
Note! Attaching files is not possible in the Teams desktop application for users without Office 365 accounts.
Note! Do not use a Teams conversation as a material bank. Users without Office 365 accounts may not be able to access the conversation unless the organiser is already in the meeting, nor can they view the conversation history.
Mentions, enable directing your message to specific users by adding an @-symbol before typing their name.
Reacting to another message, for example 'liking’ is possible by hovering the mouse over the message and clicking the desired icon.
Note! Reactions are not available in the Teams desktop application for users without Office 365 accounts.
Using chat in the Teams mobile application

1. In the Teams meeting, tap the center of the screen, and then tap the Conversation -button that appears in the upper Teams meeting toolbar.
2. To return from the Chat to the meeting view, tap the back -button.
Type your message into the New message –field. Tap the paper airplane –button to send it.
Text formatting options can be found by clicking the Format –button.
Users without Office 365 accounts can find the text formatting options by clicking the Format –button.

Camera roll images or photos taken directly on the device camera, can be attached by tapping on the Media –button.
